More than a Gap Year, a Great Year: Place Corps Kingston Fellowship Launching in Summer 2022

Kingston, NY, February 21, 2022 — ( — In the summer of 2022, Place Corps, a Hudson Valley teaching institute, is launching the Place Corps Kingston Scholarship: Post-High School Training 10-month program for 16 young people from Kingston, NY (ages 18-21) to develop the personal, professional and practical skills that lead to a joyful and sustainable life with a fair cost model that guarantees 100% accessibility to all applicants accepted.

Never before have young people been so uncertain about their next steps after high school. Young people want opportunities to learn together in person, to learn real life skills, to align their values ​​with their actions, to collaborate for the good of their community, to feel like they belong and to discover their reason for being. to be. The Place Corps Kingston Scholarship offers these opportunities and more.

Through experiential and community-based learning, Place Corps equips youth with the skills, connections, and resources to become future leaders serving their communities. Youth explore the rural and urban landscapes of the Hudson Valley with their primary class based at the Good Work Institute. Working in partnership with a network of local professionals, the Place Corps Kingston Fellowship provides cross-sector mentorship and local networking to:

– Gain valuable practical and personal skills not taught in traditional education
– Provide volunteer service and become engaged citizens in the local community
– Create professional work experience
– Save and earn money
– Develop a passion project
– Earn college credits
– Build sustainable livelihoods and professional next steps in service to their communities

Fellows receive a monthly stipend of $500 and a completion award of $4,000, along with a values-aligned action plan for next steps after the fellowship toward career paths. Scholars graduate knowing how to:

– grow and prepare nutritious food;
– confidently navigate personal finances;
– create regenerative businesses;
– communicate ideas effectively;
– design and build small structures;
– and lead righteous movements in their community
