A look at what’s going on in European football this Tuesday:

GROUP A

As Manchester City travel to Paris Saint-Germain for a rematch of last year’s semi-final, it’s all about ego in the French capital. After being substituted in Saturday’s 2-0 league win over Montpellier, Kylian Mbappe was caught on camera complaining to a teammate that Neymar – who helped Julian Draxler for PSG’s second goal – failed him passed the ball. The incident sparked debate in French media over the impact of Lionel Messi’s arrival at the club on Mbappe and Neymar’s relationship. The duo have played five games together this season, without providing any assists. Neymar and Mbappe have enjoyed a great relationship so far, but Messi’s signing has brought some major changes. Messi and Neymar, who have a close relationship with Argentina striker Angel Di Maria, rekindled the close bond and complicity they had at Barcelona, making Mbappe seem somewhat left out. “While Leo, Angel and Neymar know each other, we have to bring Kylian into all of this,” PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino said recently. “It will take a little while.”

GROUP B

Porto welcome Liverpool after an unbeaten start to the season with five wins and three draws, notably at Atlético Madrid to start their Champions League campaign. Porto have won all three of their home matches edging their opponents 10-0. Veteran center-back Pepe is still considered uncertain due to a muscle injury to his left leg suffered in the 0-0 draw against Atlético in Madrid. Atlético visit AC Milan awaiting a decisive performance from Antoine Griezmann on his return to the club. Griezmann is winless in eight appearances for Atlético this season. The reigning Spanish champion has struggled recently with just one victory in his last four matches, including the draw against Porto. His last game was a superb 1-0 defeat against Alavés, then last place in the Spanish league. AC Milan are deprived of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who suffers from an Achilles tendon problem.

GROUP C

Sporting Lisbon travel to Borussia Dortmund with just one loss all season – the demoralizing 5-1 home loss to Ajax on their return to the Champions League after a three-year absence. Coach Rúben Amorim might not be able to count on Gonçalo Inácio and Pedro Gonçalves due to injuries. Ajax meets Besiktas for the first time in 28 years in a fun atmosphere. Sébastien Haller’s four in the victory against Sporting was not a failure. Ajax are on a seven-game winning streak, 29 goals scored and one conceded. Haller leads the team with nine in all competitions. Besiktas went the other way. He started the campaign losing to Dortmund at home and finished last Friday after losing a Super Lig lead and losing for the first time in nearly five years.

GROUP D

Real Madrid hosts Sheriff are hopeful Karim Benzema and Vinícius Júnior return to form quickly after failing in the team’s 0-0 home draw against Villarreal in the Spanish league this weekend. It was the first time this season that Madrid’s attack has been held scoreless after outscoring opponents 22-8 in their opening seven matches in all competitions. Either Benzema or Vinícius Júnior have scored at least once in five of the first seven matches. Rodrygo was Madrid’s goalscorer in the 1-0 victory at Inter Milan in their Champions League opener. The sheriff arrives in Madrid at the top of Group D after a home victory against Shakhtar Donetsk. Inter visit Shakhtar Donetsk with his snap attack despite the departure of Romelu Lukaku. Inter have scored 20 goals in six Serie A appearances.
