Kevin Christopher O’Donnell | San Marcos Record

Kevin Christopher O’Donnell, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away on November 30, 2021.

There will be a private funeral service at Georgetown IOOF Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Gabriel’s Funeral Chapel and Crematory of Georgetown. The family will have a celebration of life at a date and time to be agreed later.

Kevin was born in Paducah, Texas as Joseph Guadalupe Alvarado of Emilio and Vicenta Alvarado on December 16, 1955. He attended San Marcos High School. He married Ed Pope on April 26, 2016 in Round Rock. He graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a BA in Sociology with a minor in Agricultural Sciences in 1999, a BA in Spanish in 2002, and an MA in Spanish in 2009. He was certified by the Texas Education Agency as a high school Spanish teacher and English as a second language (“ESL”) teacher. He has taught in many high schools in central Texas. He was involved with the Austin Center for Spiritual Living and was for a time a member of its Central Council.

He loved to teach and his dearest hope was to have influenced young minds to love Spanish as much as he did. He was more than a teacher in a classroom. He was a born instructor and constantly taught everyone around him a wide variety of subjects. Towards the end, he was teaching himself Dutch. He was an incredibly talented artist who drew his subjects with a depth of emotion. He was also a talented musician. He loved to play the guitar and later in his life he learned to play the drums. He loved to collect vintage acoustic guitars and loved to buy and sell cars. Above all, he had a huge heart. He cried when the commercials with the shaking dogs appeared on television. He was also a warrior. He learned to walk again after having both knees replaced. He fought (and apparently conquered) esophageal cancer. He was continually battling his type 2 diabetes. He fought valiantly with the Covid infection and even cared for others as he struggled to catch his breath on his own. His warrior spirit defended his second father Raymond Holt when doctors gave Mr. Holt a slim chance of survival. He brought Mr. Holt home and was instrumental in his recovery on several occasions.

Kevin is predeceased by his parents and brothers Emilio and Frank.

Kevin is survived by husband Ed, second father Raymond Holt, sister Maria, niece Jennifer Alvarado and nephew David Stark.

The family is asking for donations in lieu of flowers from Meals on Wheels of Williamson & Burnet Counties, Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, or Austin Center for Spiritual Living.

The family of Kevin O’Donnell would like to sincerely thank the wonderful doctors and nurses in the intensive care unit at Ascension Seton Round Rock Hospital.
